What chances do I have to get the internship I want?
You must have:
- Minimum age of 20
- Skills, and will to share and use them: you should have completed your 2nd year at university or have at least 6 months work experience in the field in which you want to apply for an internship
- A passport valid for at least 30 days after your intended date of departure from South Africa, and 2 empty consecutive pages facing each other
- Available funds (and proof thereof) to cover payment for Kunjani fees, your flights, visa, insurance, accommodation, transportation, and daily expenses for the duration of your stay. Please note that although we try to negotiate some kind of help with your expenses from host-organizations, ALL internships are UNPAID
- Reasonably good physical and mental health
- Overseas travel insurance
- Good English skills (or plans to take English lessons in South Africa)
When should I apply?
It is not always easy to find the host-organization matching your needs and requirements. Please allocate enough time for us to do so. You must also allocate time for your flight booking and for organizing your internship visa (at least 14 working days).
We thus recommend that you apply at least 3 months before the intended date of arrival. Note that you are welcome to apply earlier. You can also apply later but this will diminish your chances of us finding the right placement for you.
How do I apply?
To apply you must agree with Kunjani's Terms and Conditions, and send us the completed Online Application form, with your CV and a short letter stating your motivation. Note that all documents must be in English.
Please make sure they look good and are as free as possible of spelling and/or grammatical mistakes. Remember that they are the first impression Kunjani and potential host-organizations will have of you. So take time and put some care in the design and the redaction of your application documents.
What follows my application?
A step-by-step procedure until your arrival in South Africa
- After we have received your complete application, we will contact you by email to engage communications with you and make sure we have a clear understanding of your requirements
- We will then start looking for a host-organization with an internship proposal that matches your requirements
- We will keep in touch with you throughout that process and will keep you informed of our progresses
- When we have secured an internship proposal from an organization, we will inform you about it to assess your interest in it
- If you are interested, we will send you a more detailed proposal. At this stage, the potential host-organization might want to contact you for a personal phone interview
- If the organization confirms their internship proposal to you, it will then be your call: if you don’t agree on the placement we will discuss with you to assess why it wont do and what your requirements are, and we will start the process over
- While this is happening we will be looking for a suitable accommodation for you and keep you informed of our progresses
- When we have found a suitable accommodation we will describe it to you as precisely as possible, including price and conditions (and sometimes pictures) so you can decide if you like it or not
- If required, at this stage, we will also look into facilitating private English lessons or language school course for you
- When you have agreed on a placement and an accommodation (and – if required - a language school), we will send you an invoice of 500€ for Kunjani services, as well as your Internship Agreement form
- Your placement will be confirmed upon reception of your payment into Kunjani’s account. We ask you to kindly arrange transfer within 15 days, to pay your side of the bank costs, and to send us a proof of payment
- At this stage you will also fill and sign the Kunjani Internship Agreement form, and send it back to us
- Upon reception of your payment, we will arrange for the host-organization to sign your Internship Agreement, as well as your university internship convention if required. The host-organization will also send you a letter describing your mission. You will need this letter for your “internship visa” application
- We will also send you the contact details of you future landlord; from then on you will deal directly with him/her regarding accommodation
- It is time for you to book your flight and apply for an “internship visa” and travel insurance
- If required, at this stage, we will also look into facilitating transportation for you. The process is the same as for the accommodation arrangement. Transportation can also be facilitated after your arrival
- You will send us a copy of your plane ticket, as well as a copy of your travel insurance and visa, as soon as you have them. We will then make arrangements to come and pick you up at the airport upon your arrival, welcome you and give you some important information, take you to your accommodation, and introduce you for your first day at work
What chances do I have to get the internship I want?
Given enough time we are usually able to find the internship you want. We do our best to contact new organizations all the time and will go out of our way to find an organization that will offer you what you want.
However we cannot guarantee it. And if we are not able to offer you an internship you are willing to accept, in an organization you are willing to sign an Internship Agreement with; you do not owe us anything for our time and hard work searching.
You have nothing to lose in choosing Kunjani to facilitate your internship in South Africa.
